2000 W59 Toyota Tacoma Transmission Rebuild Kit
I needed to rebuild the W59 transmission gear train of my 2WD 2.4L Tacoma and had been impressed with the special tear down and rebuild process shown in two YouTube videos "Gearbox Video Part I" (Teardown) and "Gearbox Video Part II" (Rebuild) using an inferior rebuild kit he found available on the market. He used what I now call the "Cangialosi Method" (named after the man who made the two videos and invented the technique) that tears down the gear box of the W58 transmission using a technique that prevents any harm to the very tightly pressed on 5th gear. When I committed myself to do that job, I searched for the best rebuild kit that I could find, and ended up buying the BK162BWS from Transmission Parts Distributors. Their website didn't lead me directly to that kit because of the applications they claimed the kit would work on did not include my Tacoma, HOWEVER, upon further digging in their description I opened a sub-description wherein my Tacoma WAS listed. Then they further listed positive attributes of their version of the BK162BWS, and I saw that they were offering OEM (or equivalent) synchronizer rings, whereas the videos had shown how bad what he claimed was the only producer of the aftermarket synchronizer rings. This company sent me a kit with all of the bearings, seals, gaskets, and OEM synchronizer rings, and when I got that kit I looked the synchronizer rings over very carefully and then got the desire to express my very positive opinion of this company. I currently have not completed my rebuild, but have taken the gear train down to just the shafts and the intermediate plate, and am ready to begin rebuilding. If I discover something unexpected in the kit I am so happy about while doing the rebuild side of the project, I will get back on here and explain. I very much want to alert viewers to the fact that this kit does indeed work for the '95 thru '04 Tacoma 2.4L trucks, in addition to the two vehicles shown in their top-level add.
